FAQ's
Is Christ Clarion a social or academic preschool?

The most important thing to develop during the preschool years are social skills.  To be able to function in a group, children need to know how to use words to make their wishes and needs known.  They need to know that their ideas are important.  They need to know they are worthwhile people.  The need to know that learning is fun!  They need to understand how they relate to others.  They need to develop independence, communication skills, listening skills and a curiosity for learning.  These are the goals we set.  These are the important things needed to be ready to start school.  Strong skills in these areas will be valuable throughout life.

Why does each class have both 3 and 4 year olds together?

We strive to work as a classroom family, sharing in learning and teaching.  As we develop skills, we become ready to move on to the next step.  Activities and projects planned are appropriate for the entire range of readiness in the classroom.  Children reach stages of readiness in different areas at different rates.  If children find one skill easy, they might find another skill difficult.  When given the opportunity and stimulation, they will learn.  Children in an early stage gain by seeing how children with more developed skills handle activities.  More mature children will have opportunities to teach and lead.

Is it required that my child be toilet trained?

We expect parents to make every effort to train their child before preschool begins.  We will work with you, but we are not equipped to change diapers.

Advice:
Stop using diapers or pull ups.  Your child will quickly become aware of what happens and where this should be happening.

We do know that accidents will happen.  Please don't worry about this.  Your child will always be treated with respect and understanding.  If a change is needed, we have clean clothing at school for this purpose.  Please launder it for us and return it during the next class.

What holidays do you celebrate in class?

We celebrate all religious holidays.  It is an educational experience to be exposed to all the holidays that their friends celebrate.

How do you celebrate each child's birthday?
We invite one or both parents to join us for the child's birthday celebration during class.  Feel free to bring in a special birthday treat to share with the class at snack time.  If your child enjoys a special book, bring it in and read it to the class.  We ask that you coordinate your child's special day with your child's teachers.

As a parent, how can I participate in class?
There are many ways parents can participate in class.  These include:
Schedule a special visit so you can share your occupation or a hobby with the class.
Offer to drive and chaperone a field trip.
Offer to read a book to the class.
Bring in a special pet to share.
Come to just help on a day.  We particularly enjoy extra hands during snow season when we "suit up" for the playground.
If you have an idea of how you might be able to help, just discuss it with your child's teachers.
